May-June 2010 Co-Curricular Report

MHS North Co-Curricular Highlights ~ May and June 2010

     

  • The Middletown North Foods Classes held their annual Iron Chef Competition on May 13th.  It was a great success with all teams doing a great job to impress the judges.  This year was the first Faculty Iron Chef where five teams competed with their three course recipes (appetizer, entrée and dessert) that highlighted ricotta cheese as the main ingredient.

  • On May 20th the Foods Classes had their first iron Chef Throwdown which was made up of the winner of the student Iron Chef and the winner of the Faculty Iron Chef.  Girls with Spice, the student team, prevailed over Team Cuisine, the faculty team.  The students received a trophy, and prizes were awarded to both team finalists.

  • The juniors were notified of their eligibility status for the National Honor Society based on their 3.5 GPA.  The application and selection process will be finalized by Friday, June 4th.

  • The Play Production, Stagecraft, and Drama Classes put on their annual performance for first and second graders on Tuesday, May 18th.  North Drama and Theatre Ensemble students performed some of Robert Munch’s Stories and “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein.

  • Juniors vs. Seniors competed in the North Pride Spirit Days held on May 17th outdoors on the turf field and on May 18th in the Upper Gym while the Freshmen and Sophomores took their End of Course Biology test.  It was a huge success with the Seniors defeating the Juniors by a slim margin.  The Seniors received a trophy as well as Rita’s Ice.

  • The annual Powder Puff game between the Juniors and Seniors was played on May 26th before a large crowd of supporters.  The Seniors maintained their lead throughout the game and won by a score of 12-0.

  • The Italian Honor Society collected men’s clothing for a homeless shelter in New York City.

  • The Orange Wave Marching Band performed in the St Catherine’s Fair Parade on May 25th and in the Memorial Day Parade on May 31st in their full dress uniforms.  They received many compliments along the parade route.

  • The Freshman/Sophomore Council had a fundraiser at Cold Stone Creamery.  Many students came out so their favorite teacher could serve them their ice cream sundae, float or shake.

  • Junior Prom was a very successful and fun filled evening on May 14th at Jacques Catering Hall.

  • Ayla Nucum received an Honorable Mention in the Congressional Art Competition. She was awarded a certificate by Congressman Frank Pallone during a ceremony at Monmouth University.

  • Senior Awards Night was held on Thursday evening, May 27th in the North Auditorium.  Tom Cusick was the chairperson for the Interview Committee.  Along with Dr. Cartier, Mr. Jones and Mrs. Bolton, 135 Seniors were interviewed. The entire scheduling process lasted four consecutive days before decisions were made regarding the scholarship and award recipients.

  • The Sophomore Class participated in Rude Awakening on Friday May 28th.

  • On Tuesday, June 1, Chef Matthew Zappoli of Tre Amici in Long Branch, hosted an Iron Chef Competition celebratory dinner.  Mr. Zappoli was on the judging panel for every round of the Iron Chef Competition.  Dr. Cartier offered to waitress the staff and student tables that evening.

  • Thirteen teachers were honored at a Retirement Dinner at Gibbs Hall on Wednesday, June 2nd.

  • Mr. Isherwood showcased the talents of each of his selected choirs at the Choral Concert on Thursday, June 3rd in the North Auditorium at 7:00PM.

  • The Senior Prom was held on June 4th at the PNC for approximately 500 guests , followed by Project Prom at the Woodbridge Community Center with 150 student participants and 20 chaperones.

  • Ms. Buoncuore will be presenting a Band Concert on Tuesday, June 8th

  • The Spring Athletic Awards Night is scheduled for Wednesday, June 9th.

  • Mr. Isherwood is hosting a Cabaret Night on Thursday, June 10th.

  • The Student Council at Middletown North and the Student Council at Middletown South will be hosting a Carnival of Friday June 11th.  All proceeds will be donated to the Wounded Warriors Project.  At 7:00PM the car raffle will take place, and some lucky North or South student will win a brand new Hyundai Accent.

  • Seniors will be receiving their yearbooks on Friday, June 11th after school.  Yearbooks will be distributed to all underclassmen on Monday, June 14th after school.

  • On Monday, June 14th, the staff of Viewpoint, our Literary magazine, will be hosting a Coffee House in the Courtyard.

  • The National Honor Society Induction Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 15th

  • At 7:00PM.

  • Graduation practice at the PNC Arts Center will take place on June 16th .  When the Seniors return back to school, the Senior Class Council will be providing them with a catered lunch and souvenir mementos of the Class of 2010.

  • On June 18th after the final exam dismissal at 12:07PM, the Seniors are invited to the Middletown Swim Club for a pool part and barbeque provided through the fundraising efforts of the Senior Parents’ Council.

  • The High School North Graduation for the Class of 2010 will be held on Wednesday, June 23rd at 4:30PM at the PNC Arts Center.
